Frequently Asked Questions

Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital in Atwater Village has been serving the Los Angeles, CA pet community—including Griffith Park, Silver Lake, Hollywood, and Glendale—since 1922. Part of our mission as a practice is centered on client convenience, which is why we have created this page of frequently asked questions and answers. If you have a question that is not listed below or elsewhere on our site, please feel free to Contact Us.

1) What are your business hours?

We are open Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 6pm; and Saturday, 8am to 3pm.

2) Do I have to make an appointment before you can see my pet?

Although we encourage appointments whenever possible, we recognize that some problems cannot be anticipated. Therefore, we do accept walk-ins if an appointment cannot be scheduled in advance.

3) Do you offer emergency services?

Yes, we provide emergency services during our normal business hours. If your pet ever has an emergency after-hours, please visit our After-Hours Emergency page for a list of emergency veterinary practices in the area.

4) I’m a new client. What do I need to do before you can see my pet, and what should I expect at my first visit?

If your pet had a previous veterinarian, we ask that you bring their most recent medical records with you or that you send them prior to your visit. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out the necessary paperwork. Upon your arrival, we will welcome you and your pet with a smile and ask that you fill out a New Client Form. We will then escort you to an examination room. One of our technicians will discuss your pet’s needs and issues of concern, if any, prior to arranging for the exam or treatment for your pet.

5) What is the average wait time, from the time I arrive to the time you can see my pet?

The wait time for existing patients is usually under five minutes. However, emergency cases receive top priority and may delay pre-scheduled appointment cases.

6) Do you offer boarding?

We sure do! We gladly welcome dogs and cats to our separate boarding facilities. Learn more on our Boarding page.

7) Should I have my pet vaccinated?

Yes, we recommend regular vaccinations for all dogs and cats, even if they are indoor pets. Vaccinations protect them against potentially fatal viruses and diseases, such as rabies, Bordetella, distemper, and parvovirus.

8) What is your payment policy?

We require payment at the time services are rendered. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, CareCredit, cash, debit cards, and personal checks.

9) How often should my pet receive a professional dental cleaning?

This is determined on a case-by-case basis and is dependent on your pet’s diet and how often you brush their teeth at home. Some pets require annual professional dental cleanings while others may require one more or less frequently. We can provide our recommendations during your pet’s wellness exam. You can learn more about our dental services on our Dental page.

10) What are some of the best ways to help an overweight pet return to a normal, healthy weight?

During a one-on-one consultation, we can recommend various diet food products as well as some tips for exercise and how to keep your pet active. We will consider your pet’s breed, BMI, and current weight, diet, and activity level in our recommendations. For more detailed information on helping your pet reach a healthy weight, visit our Weight Loss/Nutrition page.
