Your pet comes first.
Dr. Matthew Costin
DVM/OwnerBeing a veterinarian is in Dr. Costin’s blood. Both his father and grandmother practiced veterinary medicine, inspiring and encouraging him to do the same, so working as a veterinarian at Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital has been a dream come true for him. Alongside a dedicated and talented group of professionals, he treats our clients and their pets like his own family members.
Dr. Costin graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences. Along with wellness counseling and preventative care, his interests include dermatology, gastroenterology, behavior medicine, and the management of chronic and degenerative diseases.
Away from veterinary medicine, he enjoys almost everything in the great outdoors—backpacking, skiing, mountain biking, and the like. Along with his family, he also loves to travel to places off the beaten path which offers outdoor opportunities. He and his family have a yellow Labrador named Dash.
Dr. Sammy Ahrabi
DVMDr. Ahrabi has had a passion for the field of veterinary medicine for as long as he could remember. He chose to become a veterinarian once his own dog was viciously attacked by a coyote while he was in high school. After rushing to the nearest animal hospital and witnessing the compassionate care and effective treatment administered, he knew this was the right field for him.
Dr. Ahrabi graduated from UC San Diego in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Biology, then went on to obtain his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri in 2016. Since graduating, Dr. Ahrabi has developed an interest in preventative medicine and dermatology. He continues to educate himself so that he is always up to date on current medical therapies and diagnostics. Some of his personal hobbies include basketball, playing the drums, and enjoying long hikes– the more remote the location the better!
Dr. John Gil
DVMDr. Gil has always been the “animal lover” in his family and was notorious for bringing in strays or hurt animals and nursing them back to health as a child. However, it wasn’t until a summer job as a receptionist in a veterinary hospital that he discovered his passion for animal health and well-being.
Dr. Gil graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2009 with a degree in zoology. He then moved back home to Los Angeles, where he worked as a veterinary nurse in a busy I.C.U for 2 years. He graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 (Go Hokies!). Afterward, he completed a prestigious, intensive one-year internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, the world’s most renowned specialty hospital. After this rigorous training, he moved to San Diego where he trained for 2 years under a team of board-certified internal medicine specialists. Finally, he elected to move into general practice and joined the Los Feliz family in September of 2018. He has a special interest in internal medicine cases such as diabetes, gastrointestinal disease and kidney disease among others. He stays current on the latest research and aims to provide the best and most up to date care for all his patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. Gil loves to travel, cook and eat. He and his partner have 3 pets, 2 dogs Joey and Leah and one cat Nina. Dr. Gil is also an aquarium enthusiast and maintains his own reef tank. Dr. Gil is excited to meet all our clients and their furred family members!
