Pet Surgery

BOOK APPOINTMENT

Safety first, always.

As a full-service veterinary hospital, Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital is equipped with a state-of-the-art surgical suite to perform a variety of procedures for your dog or cat. We also have the option to refer out for more complex procedures if necessary. We use the most modern surgical tools and techniques for all of our surgeries to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort for our patients.

As an AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital, we maintain high standards in the areas of pre-surgical assessments, surgical attire, and sterile packs and equipment. Our suite is complete with a heated table and modern monitoring equipment (to monitor heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, CO2, and temperature) to make your pet as comfortable as possible before, during, and after surgery. We also offer several pain management options for this purpose. In addition to our monitoring equipment to check your pet’s vitals, we assign each patient with a veterinary technician to monitor them throughout the surgical procedure and during the recovery period.

About Our Anesthesia Protocols

We abide by the American Animal Hospital Association’s anesthesia guidelines for every surgical procedure we perform. These include both pre-anesthetic pain assessment and preparation. To ensure that your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia, we conduct a thorough physical exam and perform pre-anesthetic blood work in-house. The results of these tests also allow our doctors to determine the type and the amount of anesthesia to administer. Since nausea can often be a side effect of anesthesia, we recommend no food after 10 pm the night before surgery, and we ask that you take your pet’s water away when you wake up in the morning.

After Surgery Expectations

After the surgery is complete, we keep your pet comfortable in a recovery area and contact you with an update. We also continue to monitor them until they are well enough to return home and be discharged. Upon your arrival, we provide all discharge instructions, including medications and recovery information, and discuss any questions or concerns you have with their post-surgical at-home care (sutures, etc.). If you ever have questions while your pet has returned to your care, remember we’re just a phone call away, so please don’t hesitate to contact us at (323) 664-3309.
